Biography

Andreas Begert (b. 1990) is a German composer of contemporary classical music based near Munich. His work focuses on orchestral, choral and stage compositions, characterised by large-scale narrative forms and a synthesis of tradition and contemporary musical language.

He studied Music Education at the University of Music and Theatre Munich, with principal study in jazz piano and secondary study in cello. Following his studies, he dedicated himself to composition, developing an extensive catalogue of works for orchestra, choir and large ensemble.

His music has been performed by ensembles including the Münchner Symphoniker, as well as musicians of the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Münchner Philharmoniker, and has been presented by internationally active soloists such as Rebekka Hartmann, Marie-Sophie Pollak and Wolfram Winkel.

A breakthrough came with the Bayerisches Oratorium (2022), premiered at the Herkulessaal of the Munich Residenz by the Münchner Symphoniker and the Heinrich Schütz Ensemble Vornbach under Markus Bauer. Performances followed at the Basilica of Ottobeuren and Augsburg Cathedral.

Recent works include the Bayerische Symphonie (2024) and Regentanzal (2025), awarded First Prize and Audience Prize at the Regensburg Composition Competition. Current projects include the opera Ludwig und Aphrodite and the Symphonie No. 2 – Bayerische Friedenssymphonie. 2026 Andreas Begert was awarded the Music Scholarship of the City of Munich (“Musikstipendium der Landeshauptstadt München”).

From 2015 to 2022, he taught practical piano skills at the University of Music and Theatre Munich. Since 2024, he has served as Artistic Director of the “Dorfener Festspiele”.

Alongside his classical work, Begert has been active as a songwriter and performer in various jazz and popular music projects, including appearances at major German festivals.
